Boom Lift & Scissor Lift Transport
Nationwide transport coordination for contractors, rental companies, equipment dealers and buyers moving aerial lifts between yards, jobsites and receiving locations.
Plan the Move Around the Lift’s Transport Configuration
Boom lift and scissor lift transport starts with the exact machine, its stowed dimensions, its weight and a workable plan for loading and unloading. A lift’s advertised working height does not tell a carrier how much trailer space it will occupy. The model, installed options, platform position and condition all matter.
Elevation Transport Services coordinates aerial lift shipping as part of our construction equipment transport service. We review the route, equipment information and access at both locations before coordinating suitable transportation. The same planning applies to a single lift purchased from a dealer, an off-rent return or several machines being reassigned between rental branches.
For a mixed fleet, use our rental fleet relocation guide to keep each machine’s identity and destination organized.

Moves We Can Help Plan
- Rental branch transfers: relocate inventory with the correct asset numbers, contacts and release instructions.
- Jobsite changes: coordinate a lift’s departure with the next site’s access and receiving window.
- Dealer and auction purchases: verify release documents, collection deadlines and loading assistance.
- Off-rent and repair moves: record the lift’s current condition and confirm who will receive it.
For purchased equipment, our auction pickup checklist helps organize the handoff.
Different Lifts Need Different Transport Information
| Lift type | Details to verify before quoting |
|---|---|
| Electric slab scissor lift | Machine weight, lowered height, rail configuration, ground clearance, battery condition and whether it drives and steers. |
| Rough-terrain scissor lift | Transport width and height, tire and outrigger configuration, installed options, weight and site access. |
| Articulating boom lift | Folded boom and jib position, platform orientation, stowed length and height, weight and manufacturer transport instructions. |
| Telescopic boom lift | Retracted transport configuration, overall length, basket overhang, axle configuration where applicable and actual machine weight. |
Record measurements for the machine being shipped. Specifications for a similar model or a different configuration should be treated as a reference until verified. If a rail, jib or axle adjustment is proposed, confirm that the manufacturer permits it and that a qualified operator will prepare the machine.
What to Send for a Lift Transport Quote
- Equipment identification: manufacturer, model, rental asset number and serial number when available.
- Transport dimensions: overall length, width and height in the intended transport configuration, including the basket and installed accessories.
- Machine weight: use the identification plate, applicable documentation or verified weight. Platform capacity is not the weight of the lift.
- Operating condition: state whether it starts, drives, steers, brakes and can reach the required stowed position.
- Pickup and delivery details: ZIP codes, business or jobsite names, contacts, hours, gate restrictions and available loading space.
- Timing and release requirements: first available date, auction or rental release number, appointment needs and delivery deadline.
- Current photographs: both sides of the lift, identification plate, tires, platform and any damage or access limitations.
Use our equipment measurement worksheet to keep this information together. Mark anything that is estimated so it can be resolved before dispatch.
How Trailer and Loading Options Are Evaluated
The trailer must suit the machine’s weight, dimensions, ground clearance and loading method. Depending on the shipment, options may include a suitable equipment trailer with ramps, a step deck, a lowboy or a removable gooseneck trailer. Availability alone does not make a trailer suitable.
Low ground clearance can make loading geometry important even for a compact lift. Ramp capacity, approach angle, traction and the manufacturer’s operating limits must be reviewed by the people responsible for loading. A loading dock or other assistance should be confirmed at both ends when the plan depends on it.
Read our RGN, lowboy and step deck comparison for the broader trailer differences. Final selection follows the actual loaded configuration and route.
Use the Model-Specific Transport Instructions
Loading, stowing, lifting and securement must follow the applicable manufacturer instructions and carrier requirements. Designated attachment points and platform handling can differ between machines. This page is a shipment-planning guide, not a substitute for operator training or the machine’s manual.
Genie provides model-specific operator manuals and boom transport guidance that illustrates why the exact machine and configuration matter.
Prepare the Pickup and Receiving Site
Confirm where the truck can safely enter, turn, load and leave. Tell the coordinator about narrow gates, overhead obstructions, steep approaches, soft ground and restrictions on truck access. The delivery site needs the same review as the pickup site.
Have the authorized release contact, keys or access code, equipment documentation and a qualified operator available as required by the loading plan. Identify loose tools, removable accessories and chargers separately so they can be accounted for and secured appropriately.
If the Lift Does Not Run or Cannot Be Stowed
Describe the failure before a truck is assigned. A dead battery, steering fault, damaged wheel and a boom that cannot lower create different planning problems. A machine that cannot move under its own power may need specialized loading assistance at pickup and unloading assistance at delivery. Do not assume every carrier has the necessary recovery or lifting equipment.
If the condition changes after quoting, tell us promptly. The transport plan and price may need review before the carrier arrives.
What Affects Boom Lift and Scissor Lift Shipping Cost?
Pricing depends on the route and distance, the lift’s weight and transport dimensions, trailer requirements, operating condition, loading assistance, pickup flexibility and access at each location. Permit or route work, where required for the loaded shipment, can also affect the plan.
Several lifts may be evaluated for one trailer when usable deck space, weight distribution, loading order and securement allow. A unit list is needed before a combined-load price can be assessed. For deliveries to different branches, identify which lift goes to each destination.
Ask what the quote includes: transportation, any agreed loading assistance, appointment requirements and the assumptions used for the equipment. Our quote comparison worksheet helps you compare the same scope. Pickup and delivery timing depends on readiness, carrier availability and the confirmed arrangements.
Boom Lift & Scissor Lift Transport FAQs
What information is needed to quote a boom lift or scissor lift?
Provide the exact model and serial number if available, stowed length, width and height, machine weight, operating condition, pickup and delivery ZIP codes, site contacts and preferred dates. Include photos and any loading restrictions.
Does every boom lift require an RGN trailer?
No. Trailer choice depends on the individual machine, its transport configuration, weight, ground clearance and loading access. A suitable ramp-equipped trailer, step deck, lowboy or RGN is evaluated for the actual shipment.
Can several lifts travel together?
They can be evaluated for a combined load when total weight, usable deck space, axle distribution, loading order and securement allow. Send a separate equipment record for every lift.
Can a non-running lift be transported?
It may be possible after its condition and a workable loading and unloading plan are reviewed. Tell us whether it can roll, steer, brake and reach its required transport position. Special handling must be arranged before dispatch.
Is working height the same as shipping height?
No. Working height describes the lift in use. Transport planning needs the machine’s dimensions in the manufacturer’s specified transport configuration, including the actual position of the platform, jib, rails and any installed accessories.
Can you coordinate rental returns and dealer deliveries?
Elevation coordinates transport planning for rental branch transfers, off-rent returns, dealer purchases and jobsite moves. Provide release requirements and receiving arrangements at both locations so the shipment can be evaluated.
