CONFIDENCE IN EVERY MILE

Transport professional reviewing a sedan and carrier equipment before loading a non-running vehicle

Your car ran when you booked transportation, but now it will not start. Tell your transport coordinator as soon as you discover the change, even if you think the problem is only a weak battery. The carrier needs the current condition before arriving, because the original loading plan may no longer fit.

This does not automatically mean the shipment must be canceled. It means the coordinator must review what changed, confirm suitable equipment and agree on the next step with you.

Report the change before trying to preserve the pickup date

Start with your order number, the vehicle’s year, make and model, and the pickup location. Explain when it last moved under its own power and what happens now. “The dashboard lights come on, but the engine does not start” is more useful than “It probably just needs a jump.” If a repair shop has diagnosed the problem, pass along its findings; otherwise, describe observations without guessing.

If pickup is approaching, call your coordinator and follow up in writing. Ask for acknowledgment that the condition update has reached the assigned carrier. Sending a message alone does not confirm that the loading plan has changed.

Separate what you know from what needs checking

A non-starting engine is only part of the assessment. Supply the details below if they are already known. Ask a qualified person to assess anything you cannot verify safely; do not push a vehicle or release its brakes simply to answer the questions.

  • Movement: Can the vehicle roll, steer and brake? Are any wheels locked?
  • Access and keys: Are the doors accessible and the correct keys available?
  • Tires and damage: Are there flat tires, missing components, leaks or new damage?
  • Location: Is the vehicle still in the same accessible parking space, or inside a garage or repair bay?

Mark uncertain items as “not confirmed.” Current photographs of the vehicle and the space around it can help the coordinator understand the situation. The existing non-running vehicle transport guide explains the broader condition review.

Ask for a revised loading and unloading plan

Do not assume the arriving carrier has a winch or can make mechanical repairs. Ask whether the assigned equipment remains suitable, whether the pickup location must provide assistance, and whether a different carrier or separately arranged recovery is needed.

Check the destination too. If the car is still non-running on arrival, the receiving arrangement must account for that condition. A plan that gets it onto a trailer does not by itself establish how it will be unloaded or moved into its final parking space.

For an electric vehicle or one with electronic controls, identify the exact model and consult its manufacturer’s transport instructions. For example, Tesla’s Model Y instructions specify key detection and low-voltage power requirements for Tow Mode. Do not assume selecting neutral provides the correct loading arrangement for every vehicle.

Confirm any price or timing change in writing

Ask whether the updated condition changes your quote, pickup estimate or delivery arrangements. Request an explanation of any additional equipment or service being proposed and who would provide it. Review the written terms before approving a revised arrangement.

If repairs restore the vehicle’s operation before pickup, notify the coordinator again. Explain what was repaired and whether a qualified person confirmed it can move under its own power. Let the coordinator confirm whether the original plan can resume.

A short condition update you can use

My vehicle’s condition has changed since booking. Order: [number]. Vehicle: [year, make, model]. Pickup: [location]. It last ran on [date] and now [observed problem]. Rolling, steering and braking: [confirmed details or unknown]. Keys: [available or unavailable]. Access: [current location and obstacles]. Please confirm receipt and advise whether the carrier, equipment, price or pickup estimate needs to change.
