Information Needed Before Carrier Selection
Provide the year, manufacturer, model, full length, width, height, approximate weight, wheelbase, ground clearance, operating condition, fuel or propulsion type, and current photos. Identify roof equipment, mirrors, ramps, bike racks, battery enclosures, suspension condition, and anything that changes the bus from its original configuration.
For non-running buses, confirm whether the vehicle rolls, steers, brakes, airs up, can release its parking brake, and can be positioned for loading. A bus described only as non-running may require very different equipment depending on those details.
Trailer, Driveaway, and Route Evaluation
Some roadworthy transit vehicles may be evaluated for driveaway service when licensing, insurance, mechanical condition, and customer requirements allow it. Trailer transport may be appropriate for newly purchased, retired, disabled, unregistered, or condition-sensitive units.
When trailer transport is used, the loaded height, axle placement, overhang, approach angle, and bus weight must be considered together. Lowboy or removable-gooseneck equipment may be evaluated for taller or lower-clearance units. Route conditions, bridge clearance, site access, and any applicable permits are reviewed before dispatch.
Public Agency and Fleet Release Coordination
Agency and municipal facilities may require advance appointments, release documents, unit numbers, proof of authorization, safety procedures, or limited gate hours. Send the release contact and yard requirements before scheduling the truck.
For multiple units, use a master fleet list with VIN, agency unit number, condition, location, destination, and release status. This allows ready buses to move while exceptions are resolved separately.
